Aki Sasamoto: Talking In Circles In Talking
December 16 - February 17, 2013
Opening Reception: December 16, 4:00pm - 6:00pm

Performance: December 16, 4:30pm

Soloway gallery is pleased to present Aki Sasamoto's first exhibition with the gallery, Talking In Circles In Talking, from December 16 - January 27, 2013. Sasamoto will arrange an installation of ice sculptures, capturing their drip sound in corresponding mixing bowls.  The installation will be activated through scheduled and impromptu performances when layers of scribbles will be added to the gallery walls.  The presence of Sasamoto's sculptures together with her talking will culminate in the real sense of Talking In Circles.

My grandfather died when I was fourteen and became an abacus.  In the way ice turns into water, he became this object he left behind......

My grandmother became a kimono belt with black pearls.  My teenage friend became a plastic bag filled with a few of the magic mushrooms he grew in his small apartment.  My music teacher has just become the wig she wore after chemotherapy.  I better start thinking about what to become.

  - excerpt from Molasses by Morinis & Sasamoto, 2012

Additional performances are scheduled for January 20, 7:00pm

and TBA in February
