Description

It's time again for our favorite wintertime street race involving people strapped to shopping carts wearing outlandish costumes. Modeled after the Alaskan dog-sled competition, the Idiotarod typically has a start, an end, and a few check points in between. With the exception of food throwing, which is strictly prohibited, it's basically a free-for-all where the most cunning and crafty are rewarded with prizes and glory. After last year's Armageddon-themed race to end all races, the tide has turned post-Sandy and the Federal Emergency Racing Agency is stepping in to manage things in association with the Department of Homeland Absurdity. Expect the same insanity, but this time it has a purpose. Email Idiotarodnyc@yahoo.com if interested in participating. Teams need to bring their own cart and will be notified of the starting location the night before. A Gowanus Ballroom Hurricane Sandy fundraiser doubles as the glorious after-party, featuring performances by the Hungry March Band, Morgan O'Kane, Aerial flying Acrobatics, and much, much more.
